Inspector Ganpat Pingle of Warje Malwadi police station said, “The victim was sexually abused from November 11 till November 13 near the school gate in the arrested person’s van. We have interacted with some 10 other children who commuted in the same van with her. Late on Monday evening, we received the medical report from doctors who have confirmed that the child was sexually abused.” Kumbhar was yesterday produced before special judge Mangala Dhote and remanded in judicial custody.
In the meantime, the Pune RTO is conducting its own enquiries in the case. Regional transport officer Jitendra Patil said, “Our team is investigating school staffers about the transport facility and transport committee of the school. We have approached the police and collected Kumbhar’s vehicle permit as well as his permit from the school to ply a van for its students. Our report will be concluded on Tuesday. If Kumbhar is found to be in violation of the norms, we will file a separate FIR against him under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.”
Incidentally, the police will rearrest Kumbhar for a separate case filed against him on Saturday night after he supposedly tried to commit suicide in the lockup by banging his head against windowpanes, shattering the glass in the process.
