New Delhi: Ex-servicemen staging a protest in New Delhi's Jantar Mantar area over the delay in the non-implementation of the one rank, one pension (OROP) scheme, said on Friday that they will boycott the 50th year commemoration of 1965 Indo-Pak War.

'We will boycott this (commemoration of the 1965 Indo-Pak War). We will not join it,' one of the ex-servicemen told ANI. On Friday, they expressed their determination to continue with their over two-month-long protest. On Thursday, the government's efforts to break the deadlock over the demand for implementation of the OROP scheme saw another failure.

During a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh, the ex-servicemen's representatives walked out over disagreement regarding the proposed annual hike in pension and the date of implementation of the revised pensions. They also threatened to intensify their agitation. Some of them have already rejected the government's invitation for celebrations marking 50 years of the 1965 war, which begin Friday.
