What do you do when your future in-laws turn out to be outlaws? Faced with such a predicament, Raj Singh and his mother Charanjeet Gurinderraj Kaur from Wadgaon Sheri approached the police. Kaur (55) filed a complaint against Kapil Sureshchandra Bansal, a former resident of Bramha Suncity Society here, and originally from Pitampura in Delhi. Yerawada police have arrested the 39-year-old man on charges of duping Raj to the tune of Rs 19 lakh on the pretext of setting up a business partnership, after the accused’s daughter got engaged with the youth.

Bansal was recently residing in ATS Advantage society at Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. His wife Bharti (40) and daughter Simran (19), who allegedly aided him, are absconding. A court remanded Kapil Bansal to police custody till today. Cops have recovered Rs 25,000 from the accused, of the total Rs 19 lakh taken from the complainant in the form of cash, cheque, valuables, etc.
Assistant police inspector DB Shingade said, “The accused had got acquainted with the complainant and proposed that his daughter and Kaur’s son Raj Singh should get married. Raj Singh and Simran got engaged, after which Bansal, on the pretext of setting up a business in partnership, got signatures of the youth on the sale deed and agreement of a flat in Chandigarh. The accused also took Rs 12 lakh and Rs 6 lakh from the complainant and Raj through cheque transactions.”
“Bansal also mortgaged the complainant’s car with a dealer, and later they stole the music system from the vehicle. We have learnt that some cases against Bansal have also been registered with Ghaziabad police,” Shingade added.
Public prosecutor Rajkumar Machewar said, “After Pune police arrested Bansal from Ghaziabad, he was in transit remand. The accused has now been remanded in police custody to discover the whereabouts of his wife and daughter, who allegedly aided him in the offence.”
