PCMC councillor booked for providing fake caste certificate

Officials of the Yerawada police station yesterday registered a case against corporator Sandhya Surdas Gaikwad from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on charges of submitting a fake caste validity certificate to the divisional caste verification committee during the civic elections held in February 2012

Cops have also booked accomplices of Gaikwad who helped her prepare and submit this bogus certificate. The suspects have been charged under sections 420 (cheating), 199 (false statement made in declaration, which is by law receivable as evidence), 200 (using as true such declaration knowing it to be false), 467 (forgery), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.


Inspector Kishor Jadhav of Yerawada police station said, “Ward number 62 of PCMC was reserved for female candidates from OBC category. While filing the nomination, Gaikwad had submitted a fake caste and caste validity certificate. She had won the polls and has been serving as a corporator since February.


Advocate Padminiraje Mohite had appealed against Gaikwad inBombay High Court in this case. The court has ordered police to register a case against Gaikwad and investigate the allegations against her. Assistant inspector SS Bendare is probing the matter.”
