Of curves and verve

IT'S OBVIOUS that Delhi-based fashion designer Mandira Wirk is uncomfortable in front of the camera, but the moment one mentions fashion, she gets all chatty.

She is working on three firsts this time: styling Bollywood actresses for a six-episode television reality show, Knights and Angels, participating in the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week at Mumbai and plans to open a store in Mumbai this year.

While she is upbeat about the latter two, she is focused on the task at hand styling for celebrity judges Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Minissha Lamba, Malaika Arora Khan and Anushka Sharma.

The dress she has designed for Malaika is a short, olive green, spaghetti strap dress with overlaps around the thigh, with a bit of crystal work in front.

As usual, Malaika looks sexy as Mandira tries to give her a final once over. With the camera clicking, Mandira freezes and says she gets conscious when she is being shot. Malaika, of course, posed effortlessly and even tried chatting up Mandira to put her at ease.

Mandira said, "This has been an interesting project. And I will do films if someone offers me a project. But after this project, I am working on the Fashion Week collection, which will obviously be heavy winter clothing." She's one of the rare designers who believes in following trends.

"Though I will be showing in Mumbai, my collection will not have silk or georgette dresses. It will cater to international and Delhi buyers, since Mumbai hardly has any winter," she said.
