If you are suddenly greeted by a huge pit on the street below your house, you can now check online if your locality is scheduled for any such digging work that gave rise to the crater. The work of laying of cables underground, which is generally carried out by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), has become a menace for traffic on internal city roads and has also led to several minor accidents.

Such works are not permitted during monsoon. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has uploaded details of all undergoing works in the city on its website.

Apart from the places where works have been carried out, the list also gives details such as the total amount paid by the MSEDCL to the PMC, the current status of the ongoing works and the length of the cables laid.
The step was taken after Mahesh Pathak, municipal commissioner, passed certain orders in June and July.

Citizens can now check online when the work underway in their area would be completed and the total cost of the project. Similar works in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) can also be viewed. "The list was provided by the MSEDCL themselves and was uploaded on the websites," said a PMC official requesting anonymity.

The MSEDCL is currently carrying out several works pertaining to laying of cable under its statewide INFRA modernization scheme, which mainly involves replacing old machinery with new ones and computerising electrical supply. A separate list has been uploaded for forthcoming INFRA works proposed by the MSEDCL to the PMC. Superintending Engineer of PMC Srinivas Kandul confirmed the development and said that the list would help people to plan their movements within their area and also the legality of a particular work.
