High Court asks petitioner to see the film to understand dyslexia
This may become another feather in Bollywood actor Amir Khan's hat. The Delhi High Court on Thursday, reacting to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that called dyslexia a mental disease, asked the petitioner to watch Taare Zameen Par to understand the problem, which is commonly known as learning disability among children.
The bench was headed by High Court Chief Justice AP Shah. The court was hearing a PIL filed by SC Jain, who sought the court's direction to the Central government for appointment of psychologists in hospitals for treatment of mental diseases. The petitioner included dyslexia in the list of mental diseases.
The court said, "You must have a VCD at home and watch Tare Zameen Par to understand the problem of dyslexia." Justice AP Shah said dyslexia is neither a disease nor a mental disorder.
