Starting this November, Welfare of Stray Dogs will sensitise school kids across Mumbai's BMC schools to overcome their fear of strays

Mumbai's strays might have reason to cheer, with NGO Welfare of Stray Dogs acquainting Mumbai's BMC school kids with lessons on rabies prevention and dog bite prevention, while sensitising them towards stray dogs.

Abodh Aras, CEO of WSD says the sessions will be conducted in Marathi, Hindi and English and will continue till February 2011.

The focus will be on kids from municipal schools, after research indicated that among those bitten by strays, most were from underprivileged backgrounds.

WSD will also conduct a basic first-aid workshop for animal lovers this December, where individuals will be acquainted with canine behaviour and tips on how to treat injured dogs. "It plays a big role in a street emergency before the vet arrives," says Aras.
