A number of celebrities, including Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson, have dropped everything but their skin to protest against the business of animal skin being used in making apparel, shoes and luggage.

But, the conservative Indian society is yet to evolve for such events, so the animal rights body People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will don skin costumes and cow and horse masks to protest against the India International Leather Fair, 2009 starting today at Pragati Maidan.

The fair attracts buyers and sellers from across the world and provides a platform for new designers to showcase their range of clothes and shoes.

"We cannot bare all in India so two protesters will be wearing bare skin costumes, which will make them seemu00a0 as if they are nude. Both the protesters will also be wearing cow and horse masks as these animals are mostly slaughtered for making leather products," said Arka Prava, campaign coordinator, PETA.

The protest is aimed at attracting attention towards the network of illegal slaughtering. Effigies depicting carcasses of livestock such as cow, sheep, buffaloes and pigs in coffins will be placed at the spot of the protest to raise awareness about animal skin being crafted into purses, shoes and jackets, which will be exhibited at the fair.
