Lack of free classrooms at Central college campus leads to delays and even cancellation of lectures, claim students of new PG course

Lectures for a new postgraduate course in Bangalore University don't hinge as much on the presence of teachers or students as they do on the availability of classrooms. First-year students of the Master of International Business (MIB) course claim that they have to run from pillar to post to look for a classroom in the Central college campus for their lectures. They say lectures have even been cancelled sometimes because of the unavailability of classrooms.

"Our classes started on October 18 and ours is the fourth batch of MIB. The problem is that we don't have a fixed classroom and we have to hunt for one in the Commerce Department. Lugging equipment like projectors and laptops from classroom to classroom is not a feasible proposition, at least not every day," said MIB student Geetha (name changed).
"Even when we find an empty classroom, we are sometimes driven out in the middle of a lecture because some other department already has a lecture scheduled there. We have even missed lectures because of this on a couple of occasions," said Nilesh (name changed), another MIB student.
The batch consists of 27 students, each of whom has paid nearly Rs 35,000 for the course. An education expert said that the university has added a number of courses in the past few years but hasn't kept up infrastructurally to cope with the extra students.u00a0
"When the university doesn't have proper infrastructure itself, how can it pull up other colleges for their lack of infrastructure and facilities? It should not start a new course and put students in trouble unless it has the requisite infrastructure in place," said a former vice-chancellor of the university.
The students have approached concerned officers with regard to the issue and have been assured that the problem will be solved soon.

Some courses have demonstrations, workshops and practicals going on and so there always are some empty classrooms on campus for lectures to be conducted.
