Following Saturday's mishap, Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has fallen short of initiating concrete steps against school authorities and the bus driver who did not enter into a contract for ferrying students of NCL English medium school.

No action in school bus accident case

The school bus had collided with a stationary PMPML bus at Pashan, and a student was hurt. Deputy Regional Transport Officer Ajit Shinde said the agency is yet to examine the documents and only then would a notice be issued.

Shinde has repeatedly promised to take action against schools and private bus operators flouting safety norms declared by the state government. Yesterday too, he claimed the RTO would undertake a special drive next week against school buses plying without safety measures.

The vehicle involved in the mishap, owned by one Namdev Pathare, was registered under contract carriage permit and could not be used as a school bus. School authorities and Pathare had no indenture for ferrying school students.

A month ago, RTO had asked the education board officials to review how many private schools have formed school student transport committees. The information is yet to be collated. There are 2,187 private schools in the city.u00a0
