Negligent driving claims teen's life

The 18-year-old youth lost control over his speeding sedan on his way to his Noida residence; the car fell 35 feet from Ashram flyoveru00a0

An 18-year-old law student lost his life in a car accident on Ashram flyover in Lajpat Nagar area of south-east Delhi in the wee hours on Wednesday. He had lost control over the car he was driving, which jumped off the flyover, breaking the railings. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Mrinaldeep Singh, a resident of sector-39, Noida.

Mrinal was son of the general manager at Indraprastha Gas Ltd., Manjeet Singh, and was a student at the Jindal Global Law Institute, Sonipat. The incident took place at around 3 am when Mrinal, while coming from a night club in Nehru Place, lost control over his speeding Honda Civic car and fell off from Ashram flyover on Ring Road about 35 feet down near the railway tracks.

"The PCR call was received at around 3 am, after which the police immediately rushed to the spot. His body was taken to the Lok Narayan Jai Prakash Apex Trauma Centre where doctors declared him brought dead and the post mortem was conducted," said a police official.u00a0

"It is clearly a case of negligent driving. He must be under the influence of alcohol. He did not have his driving license and was driving all alone. We will start questioning his friends and classmates once we are done with all the formalities. Further investigation is on," the official added further.

Police also said that whether the youth was under the influence of alcohol or there was any other reason behind the incident can only be confirmed after the post mortem reports come in. They handed over the body to the victim's family after autopsy.
