Through a press release, commission has sought action owing to the Pune police commissioner's alleged negligence in a rights violation case
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a press release, asking the state chief secretary to order the arrest Pune’s police commissioner, and that he should then produced before NHRC for disobeying its directions.

However, yesterday evening city top cop Gulabrao Pol issued a bulletin, stating that the matter was pertaining to Pune rural police.
In his press release, Pol clarified that Kisan Namdeo Ghodke and Bhagvan Kisan Ghodke had approached NHRC, and that the summons was issued in the name of Pune police commissioner, but as the matter was not in the jurisdiction of city police, it was referred to Pune rural police.
Pol has also stated that since Pune rural police have failed to appear before the commission in this connection, the instructions to arrest him were issued. The press release further stated that the explanation about the same would be shared with the commission.
According to the press release, both Kisan and Bhagvan are residents of Saburdi village in Khed taluka. Kisan had approached NHRC, alleging inaction by local police in the case of abduction and killing of his son on 30th April, 2007 by some persons, and inaction by cops.
The matter was taken up during open hearing on scheduled caste matters by the commission at Nagpur in January 2013, but no response was filed by the commissioner of police, Pune on the day of the hearing.
The release has further stated that despite repeated reminders,conditional and non-conditional summons, the top cop did not comply with the directions
When MiD DAY contacted Rajgurunagar (Khed) police station to find out the details of the case, the station duty officer claimed there were no such complaints under those names in 2007.
Superintendent of police (Pune rural) Manoj Lohiya said that he has asked Khed police to provide him particulars of the case referred to by National Human Rights Commission.
“We will check the case and inform the National Human RightsCommission accordingly,” Lohiya said. He added that this had happed due to miscommunication, and that Pune police should have informed NHRC if it had received summons about a case not pertaining to its jurisdiction.u00a0
What the commission wants
NHRC has asked the chief secretary to return the warrant, duly executed on or before January 21, 2014, with an endorsement certifying the day on which and the manner in which it has been executed, or the reason why it has not been executed. The chief secretary has been further directed to release commissioner of police, Pune on bail of Rs 500, with one surety of the same amount, on his undertaking to appear before the commission on the given date.
