Diaghar police have registered a case against Jameel Qureishi and Salim Khan, builders of the seven-storey under-construction building in Mumbra that lived up to its disaster-waiting-to-happen tag on Thursday
The duo has been booked under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC on the complaint of a person named Sharfuddin Mukhtar Ahmed Mansuri. Mansuri owned two shops in the building located near Lucky Compound area of Shil Phata in Mumbra.

The accused builders were essentially scrap dealers. The seven-storey structure came up in a record time of two-and-a-half months.

The quality of construction was abysmal, resulting in the collapse.u00a0Crime Branch of Thane police has formed teams to nab the duo. Police sources said that accused were present in city till late on Thursday night. They escaped yesterday morning.
Their mobile phone location shows they are hiding near Maharashtra-Goa border. More than 1,200 persons from police department and other government agencies - including a 90-member team of the National Disaster Response Force - are involved in rescue and relief operations.u00a0
