But it always helps to order two plates of Bombil Fry at one go, because there's nothing more pathetic than realising they are to-die-for after they are sold out. The other reason to make a trip to this dearly decadent Iranian-owned joint with quirky owners (Boman Kohinoor used to sit on the billing counter with his pet rooster, his son sits with a pair of binoculars to keep a hawk's eye on waiters and cooks in the recesses of the kitchen. CCTVs be damned!), is that they are on the verge of selling out to a shipping firm. Shame.

But it's the freshly baked breads whole wheat bread, Olive bread, bun especially the humble Pav or "poor man's bread" as the wizened restaurant owner calls it, that flies off the shelves. Soft, fresh and probably the best in Mumbai, this Irani bakery's pav fights inflation with ease.
