The driver was identified as Babu Kamble (49), a resident of Uran. According to the police, on receiving specific information about the driver, they had paid a visit to his residence, but they came back empty-handed. Cops said that the driver later surrendered himself to the MIDC police in Andheri (E).

Prakash Wadkar, assistant commissioner of police, said, “The dumper driver has been arrested for causing death due to negligence, causing damage to property, and running away from the spot without helping the victims. He works for a transporter who supplies cement bags and other building materials.”

An officer from MIDC police station, on condition of anonymity, said, “Kamble, in his statement, has said that he lost control of the vehicle after the tyre burst. He tried controlling the dumper but was helpless. He said that he ran away as he was afraid of the mob.” u00a0
