For a city that receives a pretty decent amount of rainfall every year during monsoon, it always faces water scarcity and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has to resort to water cuts. Every year, rusting pipelines cause severe water leakage. Now, to put an end to this menace, the civic body has come up with a plan of twin piping, which essentially means that the rusted pipes would be replaced without disturbing the water supply.

The BMC has been planning to start the process for a while now but found it difficult to find contractors to execute the work. The replacement of the rusted Tansa pipeline has been on the cards for some time and now, the BMC has decided to go ahead with twin piping within the next two months. However, since it is the first time that the civic body is taking up a task like this, twin piping will be done on a trial basis to check its feasibility, on a small stretch of about 1.5 km.
Rajeev Jalota, Additional Municipal Commissioner, BMC, told sunday mid-day, “We have been trying to start the pipe replacement process for some time now and have finally given this process a go-ahead. Twin piping will ensure that the replacement takes place without any water cuts.”
