Mumbai: Four people rescued from drowning at Versova Beach

Lifeguards and fire brigade officials saved a family of three and a 22-year-old man from drowning at Versova Beach last afternoon.

The family — Sharau Aarya (43), Manish Aarya (43) and their 11-year-old son Nirmit — was standing in shallow water but was pulled into the sea by a large wave around 3 pm.

When Chirag Adiyecha, who was standing nearby, saw them struggle, he jumped into the sea to save them. But he couldn’t handle it either and began to drown.

When the two lifeguards and three fire brigade officials saw them they rushed to rescue them. "After taking them out of the water, we provided them with first aid.

The mother had gulped in too much seawater so we had to pump it out from her stomach. She was in a state of shock," said assistant station officer Pravin Gonjari from the fire brigade.

All four of them were then taken to Cooper Hospital.

The Assistant Medical Officer (AMO) of the hospital said, "The condition of the mother and the child is fine. The two men have sustained head injuries, but nothing serious."
