Mumbai: Accident involving SUV from Fadnavis' convoy injures five

In a major accident in Walkeshwar involving an SUV, part of Maharastra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ convoy, and an Innova car, in which three young girls were present, five people sustained major injuries and are being treated in different hospitals. The incident happened in Walkeshwar near Ajanta Apartments, which is located close to the lower gate of Raj Bhavan.

According to the police, the SUV, a Scorpio car was on its way to fill fuel while it met with an accident around midnight on Thursday. The speeding Scorpio was being driven by Chandrakant Tavre (50) and the Innova, driven by Faiza Momeen (21), was coming towards Walkeshwar from Girgaon Chowpathy. The cars collided; both were at a decent speed at the time of the incident.


Moments after the accident, the police reached the spot and the injured were shifted to Bombay Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital respectively. Apart from Tavre and Momeen, the others who sustained injuries were identified as Inshaa Momeen (16) and Juhi Shah (22). Both were in the Innova, while Vittal Sawant was present in the Scorpio.

"Two government officials have sustained injuries in the incident and are admitted to Bombay Hospital. The three girls are being treated at the St. Elizabeth Hospital. We have taken the blood samples of both the drivers to verify if any of them was under the influence of alcohol,” said a police official.

A case under sections 279,338,337 and 427 of the IPC and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against the Innova car driver.
