Renu Kumar, a 25-yearold biker, rode his way into the prestigious Iron Butt Book of Records after he completed a nonstop drive of 1,729 kilometers in 24 hours.


Renu is the first Bangalorean and now fourth Indian to earn the title of 'world's toughest rider'.




Renu had started from Bangalore on 28 February to Pune, and returned on 1 March at 6.30 am, exactly after twenty-four hours he had started off.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0

He rode an average of 81 kmph covering 1.35 kilometer every meter in 21 hours as four hours were spent for bike inspection and refueling.

Not an easy ride

"It was one of the toughest rides," said Renu.

"Though I was equipped with safety gadgets like full face helmet, Fox spine protector, Fox Knee guard, cramster jacket, I had to face the problem of insects and flies hitting my face."

Renu rode a Yamaha R15 150 cc bike which had were fitted with specifications like tubeless tyres, front and rear disc brakes and six-gear box. Bangalore wheels, "We are proud of being part of such a trip," added Uday. "Both Renu and bike proved their ability."

Sore saddles anyone?
The US based Iron Butt association certifies a rider as world's toughest if he successfully completes a Saddle Sore or Bun Burner ride. A biker has to complete a 1000 miles non-stop ride in 24 hours to qualify for the title 'world's toughest rider'.

Renu completed the route covering 1729 kilometers, 129 more than requirement within 24 hours.u00a0 The association monitored Renu through debit card transactions and electronic transaction receipt for every time he filled petrol.
