Marathi film awards to honour Rekha, Aamir Khan

Actors Aamir Khan and Rekha will be awarded the prestigious Raj Kapoor Award at the 46th Marathi Film Awards at Balewadi Sports Complex on May 30. They will be honoured for their contribution to Hindi cinema.

Actors Aamir Khan and Rekha will be awarded the prestigious Raj Kapoor Award at the 46th Marathi Film Awards at Balewadi Sports Complex on May 30. They will be honoured for their contribution to Hindi cinema.

Lyricist Jagdish Khebudkar and actor-director Mahesh Kothare will receive the V Shantaram Lifetime Achieve-ment Award for their contribu- tion to Marathi cinema.

A seven-day Marathi Film Festival (from from May 22 to 29) has also been organised to commemorate this occasion. State Cultural Minister Harsh-avardhan Patil made the announcement yesterday.



"We are proud to be extending our gratitude to Bollywood artistes, who had contributed to the film industry for many decades," said Patil. "Actor Helen will also be felicitated in this function," he added. The state government also wishes to felicitate singers Udit Narayan, Pinaz Masani, Kumar Sanu, Shamshad Begum and music director Pt Hridayanath Mangeshkar.

CM Ashok Chavan, Deputy CM Chhagan Bhujbal and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar will attend the function. While A R Rahm-an is expected to attend, the organisers are waiting for invitees Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Gulzar to confirm.

First for Pune
Ajay Sarpotdar, presid-ent, Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal said, "This mega event is being held in Pune for the first time. The state is contributing Rs 50 lakh, which will be matched by private sponsors.

Mahesh Manjrekar has agreed to organise the entire event."

Shobha Yatra, a procession of local artistes, will be one of the highlights of the event.
