A 38-year-old man committed suicide at his residence in Bhandup. Family members say he was depressed after losing his legs in a train accident 21 years ago
Frustrated and depressed over his losing both his legs in a train accident two decades ago, a 38-year-old man committed suicide on Thursday evening by hanging himself to death inside his apartment at Bhandup’s Tembi Pada. The victim Surendra Chawan, had lost his legs in the accident when he was 17 years old, and since then he was dependent on his brother and his family for his livelihood.

According to police officials, the victim committed suicide in the mezzanine floor of their building at Tembi Pada. The cops added that at the time of the incident, his family members were on the ground floor as he was the only one who lived on the mezzanine floor.
According to initial investigations, Chawan’s sister-in-law entered the room at 5 pm to check whether Chawan needed anything and found him hanging in the room. The Bhandup police have recovered a suicide note left by the victim, in which he claimed he was frustrated and depressed since several years and didn’t wish to live anymore.
The Bhandup police have registered a case of accidental death. The body has been sent to Rajawadi postmortem centre for an autopsy. No one has been arrested in the case.
