A few days ago we had coined the phrase 'Babes who Graze' to better fit those women whom the term 'Ladies who Lunch' doesn't quite describe. You know those women who look like they subsist daily on an exclusive diet of a glass of Perrier (with a twist of lime), two cups of black coffee, a celery leaf, three bacon rashers and a bottle of bubbly.
But the ladies who'd gathered at Bindu Kapoor's on Wednesday to celebrate Karva Chauth with some choice feasting (pani puri, dahi batata puri, dim sums, sushi, dips, salads, mithais etc) were definitely from the 'Ladies who Lunch' category.
Amidst much greeting and laughter, bonhomie and festive cheer, we spotted a slew of colourful women in their traditional best — lawyer Abha Singh, jewellery designer Poonam Soni, ad film producer Aarti Surendranath, gallerist Kalpana Shah, chocolatier Zeba Kohli, art and culture patron Madhu Ruia and former actress Madhoo Shah — among many others, partaking of the offerings of the afternoon like mehendi application, festive music and much food and beverage. And so we too joined in the merry-making until we realised it was the bewitching hour (4 pm and there was work to do) and had to take our leave.
But even as we waited to depart, cars were still arriving and emitting more and more groups of colourfully dressed women into the building's foyer and the party looked like it was in no hurry to wind up. And no one was particularly concerned that elsewhere their arguments raged against 'regressive misogynist rituals' like the one at hand.
That was for another kind of woman, most likely who go by the title 'Babes who Graze'. After all ladies who lunch are quite sensible and do not mind skipping a meal or two if it helps to knock off a few calories while it propitiates a few Gods in the process.
Off the beaten track
She's always been known for her sass and style, which is why when attractive designer Surily Goel was approaching her big birthday, she chose the beautiful kingdom of Bhutan, the Land of the Dragon People eschewing the more cliched destinations like Tuscany, Ibiza and Mykonos to take her friends.

What's more from all accounts the getaway with her besties is said to have been set apart by its attention to detail and the warm vibes and happy smiles it afforded. From the likes of Preity Zinta, Dino Morea, Pratap Singh Rao Gaekwad, to Haseena Jethmalani, Gayatri Rangachari Shah and Mallika Advani, they all appeared to be genuinely relaxed and having a great time.
After all, nothing less could be expected from the land where success is measured by the standards of the Gross National Happiness of its people.
Grover Reserve wins in Beijing
For the past few weeks wine aficionados and representatives of most of the leading wine growers form the region have been in Beijing attending the 1st Asian Wine & Spirit Forum and Tasting – 'The Silk Route' from where they have been posting tantalising photographs of bacchanal indulgences to the great envy of others (sour grapes). But of course wine is a serious business, and so it's not only clinking and drinking that's keeping attendees busy.

The Grover Zampa Vineyards has done the country proud by winning a Gold for the Grover La Reserve wine and Silver each for the Zampa Soirée Brut and Vijay Amritraj Reserve Collection Red. What's more is that praise has come in from no less than the high priestess of wine, the newly anointed Master of Wine, Sonal Holland.
It's always a moment of pride when Indian wines win medals at the international diaspora. She said about the honor, “The Grovers La Reserve is a flagship wine that has been doing India proud over the years and continues to be relevant and the most awarded wine from the country.” And, of course, she completed her salute with a “Cheers.”
Elegant and artsy Delhi wedding
Next month, Delhi will witness one of its more elegantly hosted and lavish weddings when Anisha, the attractive and artsy daughter of suave billionaire Anand Burman, Chairman of Dabur, India's largest Ayurvedic medicine manufacturer, marries her long-time artistic collaborator and partner, the Zambian born artist Leslie K Mwambazi.
The couple has been listed among the top Asian couples in the arts run Les Niche and had published 'Volutionism', a coffee table book on art and design, which celebrates more than a decade of their work in 2015. The wedding is expected to raise the bar in the artistically mounted wedding stakes.
Mughal-e-Azam with Malhotra
We caught designer to the stars Manish Malhotra late on Wednesday evening at the NCPA while he was in the middle of a costume rehearsal for noted director Feroz Abbas Khan's upcoming musical adaptation of Mughal-e-Azam, which premieres this weekend. Malhotra has done the costumes for the adaptation of KA Asif's timeless epic Mughal-e-Azam, said to be the greatest love story ever told.

And with sets designed by Neil Patel and lighting by David Lander and above all a tag line like 'Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya', we are looking forward to watching a breath-taking spectacle, of course, with maestro Malhotra's creations.
