In a condolence message, the Governor has said:

Bal Thackeray

“The news of the demise of Shri Balasaheb Thackeray has saddened the heart of every person in Maharashtra. He was a leader of the masses with unprecedented popularity. Balasaheb was truly an Institution.

Shri Balasaheb Thackeray dominated the political life of Maharashtra for nearly five decades. His views and opinions on issues of national concern were taken note of at the highest level.

Shri Thackeray had a clear vision for the development of the State and welfare of its people. He was a leader who had genuine concern for the poorest of the poor and fought for the legitimate rights of people of the State.

Shri Thackeray built his organisation, Shiv Sena, brick by brick across the State. Over the years, his popularity extended beyond Maharashtra.

At the personal level, Balasaheb was a warm hearted person. He had friends cutting across the political spectrum. The void created by his demise is very difficult to bridge.

I join the people of Maharahstra in paying my deep respects to the fond memory of late Shri Balasaheb Thackeray and convey my heartfelt condolences to Shri Uddhav, Aditya and other members of the Thackeray family.”
