A gang operating in New Delhi apprehended for procuring blank parking slips and then using them to swipe vehicles of their choice
The New Delhi district - a haven of the Who's who - is also very high on the security quotient. But that doesn't mean you can take it easy on securing your vehicle when you park it anywhere near the corridors of power.u00a0 A gang of carjackers with a unique modus operandi has been apprehended by Delhi police.

The culprits would first lure parking attendants into giving them blank parking slips and would then select vehicles at leisure, put their numbers on the slips and then drive off with them. The gang usually operated in parking lots authorised by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

"Even though we haven't found any evidence which could prove the parking attendants' involvement, we are probing the case from all possible angles," said a senior police official on condition of anonymity.u00a0
Delhi police sources who refused to divulge names of the accused (as teams are raiding areas to recover stolen cars) said that the gang specifically targeted New Delhi areas and parking lots where cars are present in large numbers.
More the merrier
"They would target areas like Palika Bazar, Connaught Place and other NDMC parking lots so that the attendants wouldn't remember who parked the car and who is taking it," the police sources said. The sources also said that the accused are residents of Connaught Place.
"We have recovered a few stolen vehicles and are probing to recover more. This is a unique modus operandi as we haven't come across anything like this as yet in Delhi," investigating officials said. All the four accused caught are school dropouts and started stealing to make quick bucks. "They are in their twenties and took to crime to earn easy money and live a full life," investigators said. A case is being registered against them by New Delhi district.

Three persons, allegedly involved in stealing cars and motorcycles in the National Capital Region (NCR), have been arrested, police said on October 16. Satish, 32, was arrested during a check in front of IGNOU Gate when he failed to produce the documents of the car in which he was travelling, a senior police official said. He tried to mislead police, but on verification it was found that the car was stolen from Sector-58 in Noida. "During interrogation he said his two associates Imran and Mohammad Ali were working as a gang. Police arrested the duo later," said police officials. With the arrest of these three autolifters, police claim to have solved eight cases of carjacking and recovered five stolen cars and three motorcycles. Satish works as a taxi driver and resides at Afzalpur Nistauli village in Ghaziabad, while Ali owns a car workshop in Shaibabad and resides in Vijay Nagar (Ghaziabad). Dayal, a resident of Devli village in New Delhi, had been involved in 10 cases of motor vehicle thefts in south Delhi districts.
