A new healthy dabba service makes sure you never have to see the sour-face canteen guy who's favourite line is "Nahin milega". Run by two MBA graduates, Magic-o-Meal delivers tasty lunches packed in microwaveable boxes

Magic-O-Meal delivered a lunch to our office address at 1 pm last week. With some work to finish before we could tuck in, we ended up heading for lunch only at 3 pm.

So, when we zipped open the neat packing that carried Tupperware-style dabbas, we could only sit back and smile our lunch was still warm, nothing had spilled over, and all the dishes looked appetising.

A dabba delivery service targeting working professionals, Magic-O-Meal has tied up with Mumbai's dabbawallas to give you lunch options that are priced at Rs 45, Rs 55 and Rs 65 a day. A two-day trial ensures you get to taste the food and figure it works for you.

Though none of us are big fans of Dudhi Chana, we had to admit that the preparation was simple but tasty enough to wipe it clean.

The dal had just the right hint of spice and oil. The portion of Chana Salad was a bit dry, and the buttermilk could have done with better consistency.

Their the portions were large enough to satiate two of us with moderate appetite.

The Rs 45 meal that was delivered on day 2 had one vegetable (Veg Hyderabadi), a dal, salad and three rotis (shell out Rs 7 more for extra rotis/rice/curd/beverage). A morning SMS is sent out to inform you of the menu.

Ours said we'd be served Lime Water, which didn't arrive (it's only meant for the Rs 65 meal option).

It's the best lunch delivery option we've tried to date, although it might be a bit steep for certain pockets.

(You pay an additional Rs 200-Rs 250 for delivery charges). And yes, we Indians like our desserts. A boiled sweet tucked into the dabba doesn't help.

The all-veg menu might not fire a non-vegetarian's interest but if you are looking for ghar ka khana without the bother of lugging it to work everyday, you know who to ping.

Magic o Meal didn't know we ordered their dabba. The Guide reviews anonymously and pays for meals.
