LeT headhunter reveals he had roped in fishermen and sailors to help ship in more terrorists through the sea route

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) headhunter Mohammad Umer Madani is singing and how. Revelations made by him during his interrogation has added to the proof against the LeT for carrying out the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The suspected aide of LeT founder Hafiz Saeed said he was asked to recruit fishermen and sailors to help ship in more terrorists through the sea route.

"Madani's arrest is a very big catch. He was the one trusted with employment of people from all over India. However this time, he was given the job of hiring locals. He was asked to take in fishermen and sailors who could help in shipping more terror modules to the country through the sea route," said a senior Delhi Police official, wishing anonymity.

Arrested on Thursday by the Delhi Police, Madani, during his interrogation, said he had roped in two terrorists for the 2006 serial train blasts in Mumbai as well. A team of officials from the Mumbai Police will be coming to the Capital to interrogate Madani.

But that's not all. The terror recruiter has revealed his plans to create a module in Kerala. "He had prepared a module in Kerala. We are investigating that link too. Madani had also been given a mobile phone by his bosses and they spoke to Hafeez over that. Madani used the mobile phone to call only the senior-most members of LeT. However, he did not bring that phone to Delhi. We do not know clearly why he was given a special mobile number, which could not be traced easily," said a senior police official, wishing anonymity.u00a0

During interrogation, sleuths of the Delhi Police Special Cell extracted five satellite telephone numbers from Madani, which could lead to more links in the organisation.

Madani was arrested with a large cache of fake currency. Investigating officers said that the counterfeit currency was as good as real, giving rise to suspicions about the involvement of an authentic printing press in a foreign country.

MiD DAY tried to speak to Alok Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell), but he was not available for comments.
