Lankan cricket players injured in Lahore firing
Lahore: The Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked by a gang of gunmen in eastern city of Lahore today morning.
The attack reportedly took place outside the Gaddafi stadium, near Liberty Chowk where the team was headed for their first test match against Pakistan. Two grenades were lobbed on the convoy, which was followed by indiscriminate firing. Six Lankan players including Ajanta Mendis, Mahela Jayawardane, Tharanga and Samaraveera have been injured and five policemen have lost their lives in the attack, according to the sources.
The Sri Lankan cricket board has cancelled the tour.
