Lalbaug murder: Padwal brothers nabbed

Barely a day after a heated argument led to a scuffle that ended with a person's murder in Lalbaug on Wednesday, Kalachowki police have managed to nab the two accused in the case. mid-day in it's report yesterday had identified the deceased as former Rangari Badak chawl resident Vaibhav Jadhav, 24, and the two accused as brothers Jagdish, 45, and Vijay Padwal, 42. The brothers had been absconding since the crime.

According to police sources, Vijay was arrested as he was trying to flee from the city to Gujarat, and Jagdish was apprehended from outside the city Sessions Court, which he had approached to file his anticipatory bail plea.


Jadhav, who had recently shifted to a MHADA building in Kalachowki, was waiting for his friends near Rangari Badak chawl on Wednesday, when an altercation broke out between him and the Padwal brothers. According to local sources, Jadhav had teased the duo about one of their brothers, who suffers from a mental condition.

Heated words were exchanged, following which Vijay picked up a bamboo stick that was lying on the ground and hit Jadhav on the head.As Jadhav fell on the ground, bleeding profusely, the two accused fled from the site. Jadhav succumbed to the injury on the way to the hospital.

Speaking to mid-day, senior inspector Dilip Ugle had said yesterday that Kalachowki police had formed several teams to nab the two accused. An officer, who was part of the search team led by police sub inspector Prashant Jadhav, said, "We got a tip-off yesterday that Vijay was planning to flee from Nalasopara to Gujarat. We deployed some cops in civilian clothes and nabbed him from Nalasopara station.

Apparently, Vijay had refused to divulge details about his brother's whereabouts. "Last afternoon, we received another tip-off about Jagdish trying to seek anticipatory bail from a Sessions Court. We rushed to the spot and nabbed him from the Killa Court premises around 5 pm." The police confirmed that Vijay was produced in court yesterday, and Jagdish will be taken to court today.
