College working on its placement cell for underprivileged students before admissions start for 2011 session
While every other college under Delhi University is busy preparing cut-offs before the first list is announced on June 15, Lady Sri Ram College for Women (LSR), in the south campus, has gone a step ahead in preparing for those who will take admission this year in the underprivileged category.

LSR has shifted its focus this time in advance to make sure that all the students who get through in the differently-abled or economically backward category get a job as soon as they graduate. Every year around 10-15 students, under various underprivileged categories are admitted to the college.
According to Kanika Khandelwal, prof. psychology and media coordinator, this year the focus of the college placement cell would be the underprivileged section. "We have had a good number of placements in the last two-three years. This year, we considered shifting our focus on the less privileged section as they are the ones who really need a job as soon as they graduate. Last year we tried to secure maximum jobs for them and we were successful in placing 10 such students in good companies. One of them was a visually challenged girl who got recruited as well. This year we target 100 per cent employments for them," said Khandelwal.
The college is going to hold workshops and seminars for working on developing the soft skills of these students and improve upon their employability.
In need of help
"Besides the admission work, we have already began drafting things for this section of students. They are the kids who need a lot of help in developing their area of talent. It requires a lot of work in terms of appealing to
company heads and looking for various profiles where students can probably fit in," she added.
Since there are no pre-admission forms under the revised admission policy this year, LSR has introduced student data profile forms online. These forms are available on the college website and can be filled in by interested aspirants. "We are asking students to send us their profiles so that it gets easier for us to know about their interests. Once we have their profiles, it reduces the processing time. The forms are open for
students in all categories," said Ujjayini Ray, admissions convenor, LSR.
