Four lakh rupees in cash, valuables robbed

It is an incident than can be called a national shame as it seems to have made the slogan Atithi Devo Bhava of Incredible India campaign quite redundant.

On February 10, four Koreans doctors who had come to the Capital a month back on a WHO project that required them to carry out research work at AIIMS, found their cash and other belongings stolen from their flat. To add insult to their injury, they even had to face harassment by local cops when they had gone to file an FIR.

"The Korean doctors have been putting up in Gautam Nagar area in Hauz Khas for last one month. On February 10, they left their accommodation for AIIMS at around 2 pm and returned at around 4 pm. When they went in, they discovered the theft that seemed to have taken place during the time they were out. Rs four lakh cash in Indian currency and USD 200 besides two jackets and some valuables were missing," said a senior police official.

The doctors along with their India acquaintance then went to Hauz Khas police station to lodge an FIR but for three days the police officials there didn't pay any heed to their request. "The local police just put an official stamp on our complaint application and returned it to us. We then decided to approach ACP of the area. It was only after his intervention that an FIR was lodged on the evening of February 14," said the India acquaintance of the doctors.

Speaking to MiD DAY,u00a0 Pak Hyok Chol, the Korean doctor who got an FIR registered, said police had questioned them regarding the matter and the investigation was on.
