There are plenty of places in the city that get away with serving mediocre food in a fancy ambience and upmarket location. In the case of Twist, the new fine dining eatery-cum-lounge, the reverse holds true.
Located in a not-so-happening lane leading off Juhu Circle, opposite comfort food king, Cafu00e9 Kino, and next to a nullah lined by bushes, is a restaurant that surprised us with its yummy food.
When we first entered, we were seated in the Hookah lounge, which like most hookah lounges predictably sported sheer curtains and an Oriental vibe. We shifted to the Fine Dining area when a mob of collegians invaded the place. The shell wall hangings that dotted the walls did nothing to add character to the area, and we decided to focus on the food.
We asked for the Fire and Ice, a mixture of Vodka and green chilly, but since it had too much ice for our liking, we ended up sending it back. However, the Screwdriver we ordered was quite refreshing.
From the non-veggie fare, we ordered the Gosht Kali Mirch (Rs 310), The Machli Bagan (390) and Murg Biryani (Rs 300). The mutton was a fine mix of succulent and well-cooked meat with a spicy, peppery gravy, whereas the fish was an unusual preparation that went well with the rice. The Murg Biryani was cooked in South Indian style, with the rice well blended with the masala. Veggies can go for Veg Kolhapuri (Rs 160). Don't be put off by the regularity with which it appears on most menus. The spicy vegetable curry went well with Naan.
Since we were the only diners in the fine dining area, the service was prompt and friendly. But why is it that only a head waiter is adept at taking an order? Every time we needed something, we had to wait till the rest of the stewards went looking for this chap.
