23 November,2024 12:03 PM IST | Ranchi | PTIDelhi's air quality slipped back to the 'severe' category on Saturday morning with an AQI of 420 while the minimum temperature was recorded at 11.4 degrees Celsius. Out of 38 monitoring stations, nine recorded air quality in the 'severe plus' category with AQI exceeding 450. Nineteen other stations recorded 'severe' air quality with AQI levels between 400 and 450. The remaining stations recorded AQIs in the 'very poor' category. AQI in Anand Vihar was recorded as 457, while in in Ashok Vihar it was 455 in Chandni Chowk it was 439 and RK Puram recorded an AQI 421 in falling in the 'severe' category, as per data from CPCB measured at 8 a.m. An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor and 401-500 is severe. Above this it is considered severe plus.Meanwhile, movement of trains stood delayed due to visibility issues. Shaabi (Kanpur to New Delhi) was delayed by 39 minutes, Jansardhan Express from Anand Vihar terminal to Danapur was delayed by 661 minutes, Hazrat Nizamuddin Humsafar Express by 110 minutes, Runicha Express from Old Delhi to Jaisalmer stood delayed by 24 minutes. On November 22, the AQI recorded in the national capital was 371 and remained in the 'very poor' category as per CPCB. Earlier on November 22, the Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai inspected the Narela-Singhu border to see the implementation of stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which enforces a ban on the operation of Delhi-registered BS-IV and below diesel-operated medium goods vehicles (MGVs) and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), except for essential services. Speaking to media persons, Gopal Rai highlighted the AAP government's efforts to mitigate air pollution in the city. "The AAP government is continuously working to mitigate the level of pollution in Delhi. Entry has been banned for those vehicles that cause pollution, as Grap 4 is implemented. Today, we have received several complaints that vehicles are being allowed to enter Delhi without proper checking; hence I am here to inspect the same," Gopal Rai said. District collector Dilip Swami held a meeting with top police officials on Friday, a day before the counting of votes. In a video message released after the meeting, Swami said, "I have spoken to the top police officials from the city as well as rural parts of the district. When the results come out, the situation turns a little tense. So in order to avoid law and order issues, we are not going to allow any victory procession on the result day." "Sometimes, party workers come together and sometimes their coming together turns into a procession. We are not going to allow that also. Later, once everything is peaceful, we will allow the processions. We have issued prohibitory orders accordingly," he said. 23 November,2024 10:44 AM IST | New Delhi | mid-day online correspondentDelhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai conducted a late-night inspection in Delhi's border areas to review the enforcement of GRAP-4 anti-pollution measures and said 135 to 165 trucks violating the restrictions are being turned away daily. "Late tonight, visited the Narela/Singhu border and inspected the implementation of GRAP-4," Rai posted on X. Speaking at site, Rai said that complaints have been received about unauthorised vehicles being allowed entry at Delhi's borders. "Today, we received multiple complaints about unauthorised vehicles entering Delhi through various borders without being checked. That's why we came here to inspect the situation," Rai said. During the inspection late Friday night, Rai said that between 135 to 165 trucks are being turned away daily from November 18 at Delhi's borders for violating the restrictions imposed under Graded Response Action Plan-4. Only CNG, electric, and BS-VI compliant vehicles are allowed entry into the city, while all other trucks are banned to reduce pollution levels, the minister said. He added that strict penalties are being imposed on violators. "Those who fail to comply are being fined," he said. Rai also appealed to truck owners and drivers to follow the restrictions, emphasising that the ban is necessary to tackle Delhi's severe air pollution. He also issued strict instructions to officials to ensure no lapses occur in enforcement. "As long as GRAP-4 is in place, all measures must be strictly followed. The incident happened on Thursday evening. The fishing vessel, Marthoma, had 13 crew members and 11 of them were rescued in the search operation, the Navy said.
