The announcement to waive parking charges at airports till November 21 has been ignored by international airport parking officials. Early this morning, officials collected R120 as parking fee at the international airport for vehicles that stayed on for upto 30 minutes.
A post-midnight trip to both domestic and international airports revealed that every vehicle entering the parking bay at the international airport was being issued a token and asked to pay up. At the domestic terminal, though, no parking fee was charged. The operator there made it clear that parking was free.
On Monday, the civil aviation ministry had suspended collection of parking charges at all airports till November 21 to facilitate the smooth movement of passengers.
An official at the Mumbai international airport said the orders issued by the central government is applicable to all 75 functional airports in the country. “The order came in effect on November 14 midnight and it has also been conveyed to the officials at the parking area. I am not aware of them still charging parking fees.”
