199 Indian Star tortoise, Black Pond turtles seized at Mumbai airport

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers have seized 199 Indian Star tortoises and Black Pond turtles from two passengers who were allegedly travelling on UAE passports at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai on Thursday night

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers have seized 199 Indian Star tortoises and Black Pond turtles from two passengers who were allegedly travelling on UAE passports at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai on Thursday night.


The AIU officers intercepted two passengers - Marwan Ali Hassan and Sultan Ibrahim Ali Alfaqi who were found carrying 199 live turtles in four bags, are reportedly employed with the Dubai Police Department.

The AIU officers said that they would arrest the accused and produce them before the Judicial Magistrate.

A case has been registered and the AIU officers said further investigations for attempted smuggling through airport are on.
