Akin to numerous Puneities, even officials from the armed forces are besotted with social networking sites. This is evident from the fact that several officials have put up their personal details, including sensitive details like their area of posting, on Orkut or other network sites.
But this, according to Sudam Choure, president of IT and ITeS Association and coordinator of Pune Police's cyber crime cell, is a serious breach of national security.
"Military officials with a fancy for social networkingu00a0 are at risk of getting tapped by enemies," said Choure. He added that there are a large number of military officials on Orkut and it's quite a serious issue.
Choure, who is also a member of the recently formed expert committee by the Yeshwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), said, "Armed force authorities in Bangalore have imposed a ban on officials from posting their details on social networking sites. However, this is not the case in Maharashtra."
In accord to the verity that barring such sites would be a costly affair, he said that it's worth the effort.u00a0 It may be recalled that China has banned Orkut early last year followed by UAE.
