Fire officer Vijay Bhillare of Pune Railway Station fire station said, "It was a small fire but the clouds of smoke emitted were huge. People in the area were afraid just looking at the smoke, but when we actually got to the spot and brought the fire under control, only some spare parts continued to burn.

The cotton and cushions of discarded autos lying amidst the scrap material was the main reason for the excess smoke. Only 20 per cent of the total scrap was burnt and we managed to save the rest."

Speaking to MiD DAY about the incident, Pune Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jitendra Patil said, "The fire which broke out was due to scrap material lying around. I have given immediate orders to move all the scrap material from there.

Now onwards precautions will be taken about discarding the vehicles in our premises and if needed, we will take the help of Pune Municipal Corporation for the disposal of this scrap material in the future."
