Ghaziabad: An accused in a 2006 murder case who had managed to evade arrest all these years has finally landed in police's net.

Loni police said they last night arrested one Chahat Ram Kasana, who is accused of being involved in a murder which took place in Nithaura village.

Loni SHO Avdhesh Pratap Singh said that Kasana was wanted for the murder of Manoj alias Nikky in 2006.

The arrest comes after Loni police in October last year filed a status report before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Ghaziabad along with the signature and seal of the Nithaura village pradhan that Kasana was no longer a resident of the village.

Satto Devi Baisoya, the Nithaura village pradhan, however, contradicted the status report filed by Ghaziabad police before the CJM on November 25 last year stating that her signature and seal on the letter were forged.

While Kasana was still at large, a writ petition was filed by one Om Prakash in Allahabad High Court seeking his arrest.

A bench of Justices VK Shukla and Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh had thereupon directed the Ghaziabad SSP to file an affidavit giving full details of the steps taken to nab Kasana.

The high court had also passed strictures on the working of Ghaziabad police as the victim party had produced a photograph in court in which Kasana was seen attending the inauguration of a showroom.

The photograph was allegedly posted on the Facebook page of Ishwer Mavi, a former district president of Samajwadi party.
