Get ready for a gastronomical orgy

It's going to be three days of food, food and more food along with some wine and other exotic ingredients all under one roof at a new food show in town

If you want to learn some quick dishes in a jiffy from master chefs, stomp around in giant vats full of grapes to create your own wine or stock up your larder with smelly cheese, fragrant herbs or pungent sauces, then shelving all other plans during this weekend is a must.

For the UpperCrust Food Show is stepping into town for the first time and here's where you should be if you care about food.

A wet dream for any food lover, cookery demonstrations, grape crushing, world cuisine will all happen al fresco on the lush greens of The Lalit Ashok.

Farzana Contractor, the lady behind the show talks to us about what to expect at the Bangalore leg of the show this year. Bon Appetite we say!

What made you choose Bangalore for the UpperCrust Food Show this year?
For the simple reason that Bangalore is buzzing in the food and wine arena right now. There are so many restaurants and lounges opening up here. People here are willing to try new cuisine and are adventurous with their taste buds. They are also experimenting in their own kitchens and this show will help provide them with innumerable ingredients from the world market. Foodie life will just not be the same once you attend the 1st edition in Bangalore.u00a0

What can Bangaloreans look forward to at this year's show?
They can look out for an exciting collection of yummy goodies all under one roof at fantastic prices. They can expect to be able to look, see, touch, taste and try new ingredients which form part of cuisine such as Italian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and of course Indian. There will be many wine stalls which will offer information on what is available in India now along with price lists. People in the trade will get an opportunity to come explore the possibility of developing new business, whether retailing or through distributorship. Visitors will also get to learn cooking by watching cookery demos by some of the top chefs of the city, such as Chef Paolo (Via Milano), Chef Venkatesh Bhat (bonSouth), Chef Nimish Bhatia (The Lalit Ashok), Chef Farman Ali (Leela Palace) and Chef Jaydeep Patil (The Oberoi). With these demos we hope to dispel the intimidation one feels about cooking restaurant food at home. There will also be talks on Good Living by Stanley Pinto.

How will this year's show be different from all the previous Food Shows?
Apart from the fact that there will be a great food and wine trade fair, synergised by wonderful cookery demos and talks, in an easy and friendly atmosphere, you will be able to enjoy some delectable food, in a picnic atmosphere. The Lalit Ashok is throwing open its lawn area around the Exhibition Hall, so we can actually sit on the grass and eat.

Recommend a couple of things that are a must-do at this year's show?
You must absolutely attend the Celebrity Chefs Mystery Basket Cookery Contest on day 2. We have a line up of the five best chefs of Bangalore who will do some creative cooking with limited ingredients (which they will know just five minutes before they start cooking). The celebrity chefs are Abhijit Saha (Caperberry), Manu Chandra (Olive Beach), Nimish Bhatia, Rajiv Vimal (The Park) and Jean Michel Jasserand (Toscano). The other event I recommend is the Grape Crushing at the Big Banyan Wine Festival.
