Sri Rama Seen chief Pramod Mutalik may be waging a battle against love but he obviously hasn't done his homework in that department. He's never heard of lesbians and gays and thinks 'reproduction is one of the main objectives of a creature taking birth on earth'. And to think this came out of a bachelor's mouth. Excerpts from an interview:

Mutalik: I don't know who lesbians are. I don't know what it means.

MiD DAY: Lesbians are women who share a physical relationship with other women. Of late, there has been talk about the rights of homosexuals.
Mutalik:
Really, I didn't know that a girl could marry a girl. I think it is not possible.

MiD DAY: There are boys married to boys and they are called gays.
Mutalik:
Very crazy. I don't think it is natural.

How can we know they are lovers?

MiD DAY: Will you protest against them on Valentine's Day?
Mutalik: No we haven't thought of it. Even if they do, how can we know they are lovers? Our objection is only against boys and girls exhibiting love publicly. We are opposing the obscene culture of showing love on a particular day. Love is like a stream flowing eternally, and the way these girls and boys celebrate is an insult to the very principle of love.

MiD DAY: So you don't have an issue with homosexuals?
Mutalik: We have to study the issue before reacting to this. According to the law of nature, the purpose of marriage is to have children. Without this purpose, how can any relationship be called a marriage? Reproduction is one of the main objectives of a creature taking birth on earth.

MiD DAY: If this is true, why are you not married? In your own terms, you are not fulfilling the purpose of your life.
Mutalik: In society, while the majority are common people, there are some who work for society by sacrificing their own needs and fulfilment. I belong to the second category. My life is dedicated to the service of my country. I am the son of Bharat Maata and I am completely at her service. If get married, I will not be free enough to serve my country. I am completely free now, and I am happy.

MiD DAY: Have you been attracted to any woman?
Mutalik: No. I have seen women and have talked to them. But all are sisters to me. If they are elder, then they are my mothers.

MiD DAY: What are the chances of a woman entering your life?
Mutalik: No chance.

MiD DAY: What if a woman proposes to you?
Mutalik:
She will be strongly discouraged. But please don't ask these absurd questions. Don't we have more serious issues to discuss?

MiD DAY: But Renuka Chowdary is coming down to greet you.
Mutalik:
She is crossing her limits. She must not forget that she is a minister. Being in such a big post, she should not be so irresponsible.

MiD DAY: Will you accept the rose she plans to offer?
Mutalik:
My people will not allow her to come to me.

MiD DAY: If they allow her to come to you?
Mutalik:
That's rubbish.
