Delhi's most notorious criminal is aspiring to become a corporator; the Intelligence Bureau tips a gang war

Delhi's streets may soon witness a gang war, the Intelligence Bureau says.

Krishan Pahelwan is contesting as an Independent candidate from MCD ward No 139

Pahelwan has 27 cases of murder registered against him in Delhi and several attempt to murder and dacoity cases in Haryana. He carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head. He was arrested from Rajasthan on charges of violating the excise law and brought to Delhi.

In his disclosure statement on June 6 Pahelwan announced his desire to contest the MCD polls, claiming he want to lead a "peaceful life now".

However, sources in the Intelligence Bureau said Pahelwan is high on the hit list of not just his rivals the Anoop Balraj gang but also disgruntled elements within his own group.

In fact, his BJP rival Sandip Shaukeen, is the son Jagbir Singh Dichau a blacklisted man for his role in several dacoities.

"The two families share enmity and it is possible that the rivals of Pahelwan may come to the support of Shaukin," intelligence sources said.

They also said that Pahelwan might have turned himself in to protect himself. Pahlewan's brother Bharat Singh was the incumbent councilor from the seat and vacated it after being elected to the Delhi Assembly from Najafgarh.

Apart from the gangster's wife, Singh is also actively participating in canvassing for his brother.

Sources in the Delhi Police said Pahelwan, who has property worth at least Rs 50 crore in Delhi with flats in several housing societies in Dwarka and farms in Najafgarh, managed to escape in May when the rival Balraj gang attacked him. After the attempt on his life, he opted to get arrested to lodge himself in the safest place jail.

"Some of his rivals can even hire professional criminals to eliminate him. He faces a threat from gangsters Satish Duda, Manjit Mahal and Narendra," said a source in the Special Cell of Delhi Police.

A councilor, requesting anonymity, said the entry of such people would increase corruption in MCD. "Most of them shed blood for MCD contracts and thus want to get inside the organisation."
