Au00a0major fire broke out in a mall at the Umbrya Ganpati Chowk on Laxmi Road around 1 pm. No casualties were reported.

Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control in half-an-hour.

Trader Umesh Sharma, who rents out the mall space, estimated the loss to be Rs 3 lakh.

Sharma said he was at a loss to know how a fire broke out even though the power switch inside the shop
was off.

"This is the first fire incident this summer on Laxmi Road," said Ashok Lunkad, a shop owner in the area.
Chief Fire Officer Prashant Ranpise said the cause of the fire may have been a short circuit, but did not rule out the scorching heat and consequent rising temperatures as the culprit.

The Vishrambaug police are also investigating the cause of the incident and have registered an accidental blaze case.
