Cinema of the young: Fifty-five student films of up to 40 minutes
duration will be showcased at the festival
Around 55 films from schools in the country and international institutes will be showcased from September 24 to 28.
The idea behind the festival is to deepen the relationship between film schools through interaction and to broaden horizons, said FTII authorities.
Each film school will be represented by a student and his or her film. Apart from the screening of the film, there will be an open forum where the filmmakers will interact with audience.
"Each film will be of 40 minutes duration or less and we requested each institute to send us the best two entries so that we could choose from among them," said Gayatri Chaterjee, Faculty of Direction, who is the festival co-ordinator. "Some of the institutes have sent us around 10 entries and we have chosen the best ones."
The genres include animation, fiction and non-fiction. The winners in each category will get $1,000 (Rs 45,600) and a Canon HD Camera.
Noted filmmaker Govind Nihlani will be the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony, which will be followed by screening of FTII students' short films.
On the last day, filmmaker Shyam Benegal will be the chief guest.
