For the time being water from the borewell is being used by the labourers for consumption, bathing and construction purposes. The only catch is, all this is being done without proper permission.
"We already have earmarked spaces on Ramlila ground and I hope they are using only these areas to get water. Otherwise digging up government land for a borewell is illegal.u00a0 Central government has formed a committee to check illegal digging for ground water.
No person, group, authority, association or institution is allowed to draw ground water through orewell/tubewell for domestic, commercial and or industrial uses without the prior permission of competent authority. If we find any instances we first visit the area and then report is sent to the local SDM and SHO and legal action is taken,"u00a0 Naveen Solan, Superintendent Engineer, Delhi Jal Board.
Lost, not found
According to sources, apart from this, theft cases have also been reported from the Ramlila ground in the past few days. While two transformers were stolen by unidentified miscreants, articles made of iron and other small appliances have also gone missing from the spot. "It is a big ground and small things are disappearing. We have asked the local police to look into the matter and oversee the security at the grounds during the camp," sources said. No case, however, been registered in connection with the thefts.
