Three-member panel constituted by varsity still groping in dark to find 'culprits'

Fact-finding committee yet to reach conclusion

It has been two weeks since the revaluation scam in the University of Pune (UoP) was exposed, but the investigators still appear to be groping in the dark, as the three-member fact-finding committee constituted by the varsity is yet to submit its final report to the V-C.

Committee Chairperson ACP (Retd) Sharad Avasthi had earlier said it was not possible to operate such a scam without the involvement of insiders. But the committee is yet to identify the ‘culprits’.

“Our investigations are on and in the next three days the picture will get clearer,” is what Avasthi had said on October 17.
Avasthi’s remark about involvement of insiders evoked sharp criticism from the examination department staffers.

“If the fact-finding committee is so sure about the involvement of the employees of the exam department, then why are they taking so much time? The committee members have made baseless public statements, and now they are not able to prove it,” said one of the staffers.

When contacted, Avashthi said the investigation was in its final stage and soon the committee would reach a conclusion.

Controller of Examination (COE) Dr Sampada Joshi said, “The fact-finding committee is investigating the case related to dummy students.

To investigate the revaluation scam busted in Poona College is the responsibility of the police , and they are doing their job. We are cooperating with the police.”

She added that the committee would be submitting its final report to the V-C within the next 10 days.u00a0
