Say their degrees bogus, demand fee refund; college claims protest handiwork of one ex-student who wants to extort money from institute

Au00a0few former students of the Poona School of Business (PSB) along with political workers stormed into the institute campus alleging that the degrees given to them were bogus. The management quickly dispersed the crowd and accused a former student of blackmailing the institute and stealing documents from the institute.
The battle between former students and the management is not new, and last year too some students had created a ruckus and complained with consumer forums that the college had cheated them and given them distance education degrees instead of the promised full-time degree certificate.
The management said the issue was sorted out and that the students had no complaints now as they are placed in good jobs.
Two days ago, some of the students tried to protest at the institute over the same issue and were dispersed by the management representatives. The students were demanding refund of fees as they felt cheated.
"When we took admission we were told our degrees were regular ones, but later we learnt that they were being issued by an institute in Tamil Nadu under its distance learning programme," said a former student who was not part of the protest. "This led to much anger among some students and though I have got a job now, may be some students have not. I know some are still asking for refund of fees."

A few minutes later, MiD DAY was contacted by Manu Sharma, manager (marketing) at PSB, who said the management was being targetted for money.
"The entire smear drive is being organised by one student. He first studied here and when he didn't get a placement, we employed him in the accounts department. However, he kept pressurising the institute to make him leader of the students' union. He even stole documents related to students fees, seats, fund allocation, among others, from our office, so we lodged a complaint against him," said Sharma.
He said the former student got together with a few others and tried to create ruckus at the campus even two days ago over 'past' issues, but PSB authorities again reported him to the police.
Shailendre Ganeshe, manager and in charge of administration, said the issue was being settled as the student was feeling apologetic and had requested the management not to take action against him.
