He wanted Rs 25 lakh to buy a plot to live with his girlfriend

A youth staged a robbery of Rs 25 lakh, along with a friend, because he wanted to buy a plot and live with his girlfriend. But his plans were shattered when he was arrested after police found contradictions in his statement, after going through their call location. The police also recovered from him stolen goods worth Rs 17 lakh. The incident was reported from Mandir Marg area of Delhi.

The arrested youth has been identified as Pawan Tiwari, while his friend Gulshan Kumar, who got an FIR of fake robbery registered with the police is still absconding, a police official informed. "Gulshan and Pawan work as drivers at a private firm in south Delhi. Pawan has an affair with a girl and needed money to buy a plot to live with her. He staged the robbery with the help of his aide Gulshan," said the official.

Wrong turn
Gulshan Kumar, aide of the accused, told the police that with the said amount, he was heading towards New Delhi area from Bijwasan. His truck was intercepted by a Santro car near Shyam Lal Marg in Mandir Marg area.
"Gulshan told the police that four persons travelling in a Santro overpowered him and took him to Narela, where they pushed him out of the running vehicle and made off with truck," the police official said.

During investigations, police found contradictions in the statement given by Gulshan. They got to know that the location of the cellphone from which the PCR call had been made was Sonia Vihar, while the driver had said that he was taken to Narela. Police also came to know about Pawan's location from the same area, after which they traced his number and nabbed him.

"Pawan broke down during interrogation and told the police that they had staged the robbery. Police also arrested the man who bought copper from them, and recovered goods worth Rs 15 lakh from them," the official informed.
