In its attempt to make a foray into the state politics, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) yesterday announced that it would contest all the seats in the state during the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly Elections in 2014. But the fact that Kunal Singh Kushwaha, TMC convener for the state, could not answer the basic questions about the how party planned to tackle problems faced by the state gave an impression that the TMC had failed to do its homework.

Kushwaha, who claimed that West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee chose him after examining him for about three years, could not even informed the mediapersons about the exact number people who had joined the party in the state.

Like Kushwaha, even the party’s newly selected state secretary Rahul Jagtap was found wanting for answers when questioned about party’s strategies to tackle problems in the state. Jagtap too claimed that Didi has picked him and had worked with the party for around two years.

Speaking about the TMC’s future plan of action in the state, Kushwaha said the party would focus on rural areas in the state. He said Didi’s image would create magic in these areas, just like in West Bengal.

When questioned what measures will the TMC implement to tackle farmers suicide, drought like situation and Naxalism in the state, Kushwaha said Mamata Banerjee had efficiently tackled Naxalism in West Bengal and will do the same to fight Naxals in the state.

He was also asked whether the party was ready to take on the well-established parties in the state. “As TMC has ended the 25 year Communist Party rule in West Bengal, it can easily give a tough fight to the ruling parties of Maharashtra,” Kushwaha said.

On realising that well-established parties include TMC allies, the Congress and the NCP, Kushwaha rectified his statement. “It will be decided at the time of elections whether to contest all the seats or share with our allies,” he said.
