Every December, on a full moon winter night, in the strikingly contrasting landscape of Kutch, a three-day festival brings the spotless white sands alive with music and colour.

Popularly known as the Kutch festival, Rann Utsav 2010 will include a visit to the India-Pakistan border, bird watching at newly-declared protected wetland Chhari Dhand, India's westernmost point Lakhpat fort, Kutchi music, a trip to Gujarat's oldest museum in Bhuj, a view of Rann of Kutch from the top of the Kutch's tallest Kalo Dungar, a stop at Mandvi beach and a visit to Mandvi's traditional ship making industry. According to statistics from Gujarat Tourism, more than 8,000 tourists attend this four-day carnival.

Getting there, however, is a long haul. This year though, a new cruise liner is braced to make things easier. Blue Ocean Cruises will sail its 574-passenger modern vessel MV Ocean Life from Mumbai to Mundra Port in Kutch on the day Rann Utsav kicks off.

"The ship will leave Mumbai on December 19 and reach the port, which is a stone's throw from the festival venue," said Oneil Khosa, CEO, Blue Ocean Cruises.

And if things go as planned, Gujarat Tourism ambassador Amitabh Bachchan will be on board with you on the four-night luxury cruise. The actor may join in the celebrations on the beach when the ship lands.
