Shirish Swamy, son of a former police officer, jumped off his building in police colony quarters at Kandivli (East) on Saturday at around 11.30 pm. According to officials from Samta Nagar police station, Swamy was reportedly suffering from depression.

Swamy’s parents had helped him open a general store in their locality. However, for the past few months, his business was incurring losses. Swamy’s father used to work as an inspector with the Mumbai police force and he stayed with his parents at the Police Grihnirman Society at Thakur Complex. Swamy was married and had two children.

Officers said that around 11.30 pm on Saturday, he went up to the society’s terrace and jumped off. Locals found him lying in a pool of blood and informed the police about the incident. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, however he succumbed to his injuries. No suicide note was recovered from Swamy’s residence.
“We have registered a case of accidental death and recorded the statements of Swamy’s family members,” said PI LG Shinde, from the Samta Nagar police station.

Failure in SSC
Separately, a 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her Jogeshwari (East) residence on Sunday at around 12.30 am. The girl’s parents told the police that their daughter was depressed, as she could not clear her SSC examinations this year.

According to officials from Meghwadi police station, the deceased, a resident of Thakur chawl ended her life while her parents were asleep in the adjacent room. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The Meghwadi police have filed an accidental death report.

“Her family has said that they do not suspect any foul play and added that she had been depressed after she failed her SSC examinations a few months ago,” said an officer from Meghwadi police station.u00a0
